For twelve consecutive weeks, Morgan Wallen’s latest album “One Thing at a Time” dominated the Billboard chart, holding off stiff competition from iconic artists such as Ed Sheeran, Metallica, the Jonas Brothers, and solo projects from two members of BTS. However, Taylor Swift’s seven-month-old album, “Midnights,” made a comeback with two deluxe reissues featuring bonus tracks, claiming its sixth No. 1 spot on the chart. One of the new versions, dubbed “The Late Night Edition,” was initially only sold as a CD at Swift’s current stadium tour, but for a day was also available for download from her website. According to Luminate, a tracking service, “Midnights” logged the equivalent of 282,000 sales in the United States last week, including 196,000 copies sold as complete packages and 108 million streams.
Swift’s “Midnights” has been a consistent hit since its release last October. It remained in the Top 10 on the chart for 32 weeks, with only three weeks outside of the Top 5, garnering nearly five million sales and 3.2 billion streams in the United States.
As Swift’s Eras Tour continues to gain momentum, her broader catalog has returned to the top of the album chart. Nine of her titles made it to the Top 40 last week, with her 2019 album “Lover” sitting at No. 6. Furthermore, Swift recently announced that a re-recorded version of her 2010 album “Speak Now” featuring the hits “Mine,” “Back to December,” and “Mean” will be available in July.
Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” drops to No. 2, losing its spot to “Midnights.” Its unprecedented run of 12 weeks is just one week shy of tying the record set by Stevie Wonder in 1977 among albums that open at No. 1 and maintain their position. Wallen’s previous release, “Dangerous: The Double Album,” is at No. 5 this week with its 122nd appearance in the Top 10.
Moreover, Lil Durk, a rapper from Chicago, debuts at No. 3 with “Almost Healed,” featuring guest appearances from Alicia Keys, 21 Savage, and Wallen. The album sold the equivalent of 125,000 copies, including 168 million streams and 2,000 copies sold as a complete package. At No. 4 is SZA’s “SOS.”
