When 2023 came to an end, it was hard to miss all the “ins” and “outs” lists for 2024 on social media. I personally love these lists because they are about embracing positive energy and letting go of what no longer serves you, rather than setting strict resolutions or unattainable goals. As a registered dietitian, wellness is second nature to me, and I wanted to share my own wellness “ins” as we move into 2024.
1. Embracing dry brushing
I was intrigued after hearing about the benefits of dry brushing from a friend. This practice is not only relaxing but also offers exfoliation and lymphatic drainage. It has become a relaxing addition to my evening routine.
2. Prioritizing high-protein breakfasts
I have found that starting my day with a high-protein breakfast leaves me feeling more satisfied, focused, and energized throughout the day. It’s a habit that I am committed to maintaining.
3. Setting phone on “Do Not Disturb”
To prioritize my mental health, I have made it a point to use the “Do Not Disturb” function on my phone to reduce distractions and focus on quality time with others and self-care.
4. Using a silk pillowcase
Using a silk pillowcase has improved my hair health and helped in maintaining hydration for my skin throughout the night.
5. Making time for reading
I have added reading to my wellness “ins” list as a reminder to prioritize this activity, which has numerous health benefits such as promoting critical thinking, reducing stress, and improving sleep.
6. Drinking electrolytes
While staying hydrated is important to me, I am now prioritizing electrolytes to ensure proper hydration, nervous system and muscle function, and regulation of the body’s pH levels.
7. Including strength-based workouts
In addition to my usual Pilates and yoga routine, I am incorporating more strength-based workouts, such as weight lifting, to boost confidence, feel more toned, and reduce the risk of injury.
