Earlier this month, Google and Samsung announced their collaboration to merge their wireless file sharing systems into a single product. This merger of Google’s Nearby Share and Samsung’s Quick Share was initially featured on the Galaxy S24 series. Now, the updated Quick Share is being released to other Galaxy phones and tablets. Samsung has introduced the Quick Share feature through updates to three apps on the Galaxy Store: Quick Share, Quick Share Assistant, and Quick Connect. The Quick Share app has been updated to version 13.6.11.7 with a download size of 24.5MB. The new version of Quick Share Agent is 3.5.19.23 with a smaller size of approximately 3.70MB. Additionally, the Quick Share Connectivity app has been updated to version 1.5.02.30, with a download size of 1.72MB. These updates are now available for download from the Galaxy Store on Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Once these three apps have been updated, a new Quick Share icon will appear in the share menu on all Galaxy phones running One UI 6.0 (or older). The Nearby Share section will still be visible on the sharing page but is set to be removed after Google releases a new GMS Update in the first half of this month. Quick Share will also replace Nearby Share on all non-Samsung Android phones this month.
The new Quick Share feature will display nearby connected devices directly in the share menu before clicking the Quick Share icon. The sharing menu will show the Galaxy S24+ along with apps, people, and frequently used services. Clicking on the Quick Share icon will reveal a full-screen menu with various options, including the ability to share using a QR code. It also allows wireless file sharing with contacts, creating a link for others to download the shared files, with a new 5GB per session limit, an improvement over the previous 3GB limit.
The updated Quick Share enables wireless file sharing with other Android phones, tablets, and TVs, as well as Chrome OS computers and laptops. Samsung has also announced its plan to collaborate with Google to integrate the Quick Share and Nearby Sharing apps for Windows by the end of the third quarter of this year.
