The big question surrounding Joe Biden’s re-election bid is not his age, but his passion for policy. Some younger voters have expressed disappointment with Biden’s policy priorities, resulting in only 36 percent of them approving of his job performance, according to an Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School poll. For these voters, Bernie Sanders’ presidential bid was more appealing because of his emphasis on policy issues that they care about. Activists point out that Biden needs to demonstrate more determination in fighting for progressive policies and put more resources into policy and voter engagement. Even Trump, who is only slightly younger than Biden, has framed his venomous rhetoric as a marker of virility. So Biden has to show more fight and prove that he is more bulldog than bulwark to win the hearts of voters.
