The Oklahoma State Department of Health affirmed the initial influenza passing of a youngster under five years old on Tuesday. OSDH conveyed a notification stating the child passed away in southeast Oklahoma. No further details were disclosed. Authorities revealed that influenza activity has been on the rise since Sept. 1, 2023, particularly in recent weeks. Kendra Dougherty, director of the OSDH Infectious Disease Prevention and Response program, mentioned, “Oklahoma is likely now entering our peak influenza season.” She added, “Even though influenza activity is decreasing nationally, Oklahoma experienced a delayed start in increasing activity than the rest of the country.” OSDH reported 900 influenza-related hospitalizations and 16 fatalities in the state since September.
