# Photo of obnoxious screen inside a public bathroom sparks outrage online: ‘If there’s no one around I’d break it’
A Redditor has posted a photo of an absurd ad in an unexpected place. In a post on the r/Anticonsumption subreddit, a user shared a picture of a small screen on top of a sink faucet in a public restroom. The ad is not promoting a product, but is advertising itself as a space for ads with the message, “Advertise here for less than $1 a day,” trying to persuade businesses to pay for the company to display ads in public areas like restrooms.
The user captioned the post with, “Got to love how there are ads [literally] everywhere.”
Invasive and unnecessary advertisements like this not only waste resources and make private spaces feel more public, but they also encourage people to continuously buy unnecessary products, leading to cluttering the planet with waste. If anything, advertising should discourage excessive consumerism in order to tackle the problem of waste.
The shameless advertising received criticism in the comment section. One user questioned the profitability of constantly displaying ads in a market where they are universally disliked. Another user expressed the urge to break the screen if no one was around. A third user pointed out the excessive marketing budgets while essential needs like childcare are financially out of reach for many.
