The first look at the Google Pixel 9 series reveals the company’s plans for 2024 with a new design and the use of three cameras in a small phone for the first time. Following Tensor’s relaunch in 2021, Google has divided its releases into two categories: a large, all-in-one “Pro” device and a smaller, compact device at a lower price. The main differences between the two have been screen size, memory, and the addition of a telephoto camera only on the larger Pro model. However, this year seems to bring a change. According to new renders from @OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, the small Pixel 9 will feature a new design similar to the recently released Pixel 9 Pro, but in a smaller size. The device measures 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5mm, slightly larger than the Pixel 8, which measured 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm. The screen size, however, is still listed at around 6.2 inches. The major update this time is that the smaller Pixel 9 appears to have three cameras, the same as the Pixel 9 Pro, with the noteworthy addition of a telephoto lens using periscope mode, confirmed by the rectangular shape seen in the rendering. This development is good news for fans of small devices who don’t want to compromise on camera capabilities.
Additionally, the cutout used as the temperature sensor on the Pixel 9 Pro also appears on this smaller Pixel 9. More details will likely be revealed about the Pixel 9 series, which is expected to launch later this year, possibly in October based on previous trends.
