The United States may soon have a new, unexpected location for the tallest building in the country. If approved, it won’t be anywhere near New York. In a new proposal set out by AO Architects and real estate developer Matteson Capital, the Boardwalk at Bricktown could become a 1,907 foot skyscraper, officially the sixth tallest building in the world, located in downtown Oklahoma City. According to AO Architects, the development would encompass over 3 acres and over 2 million square feet of residential, hospitality, retail, dining and entertainment. It would include hotel and residential towers, each with their own unique luxurious amenities, as well as brand new dining and retail spaces with open plazas. The designers aim to create a dynamic urban hub for tenants and visitors. The project is planned to feature a collection of three towers rising to 345 feet, as well as a fourth tower called Legends Tower, which would be 1,907 feet tall, in honor of the year Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state of the United States. The mixed-use marvel would include a 480-key Dream Hotel by Hyatt with residential serviced condominiums, a Hyatt hotel with additional serviced condominiums, residential units, and retail and restaurant spaces. The top floors of the supertall tower would have a public observatory, restaurant and bar offering sweeping city views. However, the proposed development still requires final approval from the city and there is no guarantee that it will be built at the moment under their current application. Oklahoma City is at a significant period of growth and transformation, making it well-positioned to support large-scale projects like the one envisioned for Bricktown, according to Scot Matteson, CEO of Matteson Capital. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE, remains the tallest building in the world, while One World Trade Center in New York City is currently the tallest building in the United States. If built, the new building in Oklahoma City would surpass One World Trade Center by 131 feet.
