(WKBN) – Quaker Oats Company has announced an expanded nationwide recall of its granola bars.
The company has added its discontinued Quaker Chewy Dipps Llama Rama to the list of previously recalled products due to potential “salmonella contamination.” The affected products have “best before” dates of February 10 or 11, 2024 and were sold throughout the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan.
The CDC estimates that salmonella bacteria causes approximately 1.3 million infections every year, including about 420 deaths. The most serious infections often affect children, older adults, or those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of salmonella may include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, and possible nausea, vomiting, or headache. Individuals experiencing severe symptoms such as dehydration, prolonged vomiting, prolonged diarrhea, or diarrhea with a fever of over 102 degrees F should contact a doctor immediately.
Quaker’s recall notice and the CDC’s website offer more information on salmonella infection.
This expanded recall follows previous recalls issued on December 15 and January 11, which included various Quaker products. A complete list of the recalled products can be found on the company’s website.
Consumers are advised to check their pantries for any recalled items and dispose of them. Those seeking reimbursement can contact Quaker Consumer Relations at 1-800-492-9322 or visit QuakerRecallUSA.com to start the process.
