Cruise companies such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival Corporation, and MSC Cruises are making changes to their voyages as tensions in the Red Sea rise. They are either canceling or rerouting their trips to avoid passing through the Red Sea due to attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen.
Carnival Corporation has recently announced the rerouting of 12 ships across seven of its brands in May to avoid passing through the Red Sea. The company emphasized its commitment to the safety of guests and crew and stated that it was actively monitoring the situation in the region without specifying which sailings were likely to be affected.
Costa Cruises has canceled a repositioning voyage scheduled to sail through the Red Sea in March due to security concerns in the area. Princess Cruises, another Carnival Corporation brand, has rerouted world cruises aboard two of its ships, Island Princess and Coral Princess, to visit ports of call in Australia, South Africa, Western Europe, and the Mediterranean instead.
MSC Cruises also canceled at least three repositioning voyages due to depart in April due to the situation in the Red Sea. Silversea confirmed the cancellation of two upcoming voyages and the amendment of an itinerary to allow guests to disembark in a different port following attacks by Houthi rebels on vessels transiting through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
