With the growing prevalence of remote work, the travel industry is experiencing significant changes.
According to Deloitte data cited by NerdWallet, 20% of travelers this summer plan to work while traveling, and four out of five of those individuals plan to extend their trips due to flexible work schedules.

NerdWallet reports that the flexibility of remote work could potentially lead to dramatic shifts in travel trends. For instance, historically, flights have been more expensive on weekends and cheaper during the week. However, this could change now that more people are working remotely.

Hopper, a travel booking app, has found that the cost of domestic flights on Sundays has increased by 5.9%, and domestic flights on Mondays have risen by 2.97% compared to 2019, as reported by NerdWallet.
Conversely, flight prices on Fridays have decreased by 3.04%, and there has been a decrease of 1.6% on Saturdays, making Saturdays the cheaper day to fly compared to Mondays.
Holiday travel could also see a shift as remote workers have the freedom to take longer trips and avoid peak travel dates, as noted by NerdWallet.

Additionally, remote work allows individuals to save more money for travel by relocating to areas with lower costs of living and tax benefits, according to NerdWallet.
“Many travelers who have the opportunity are choosing to combine remote working with trips for a change of scenery and to maximize their time off,” said Mark Crossey, a travel expert at Skyscanner, as reported by NerdWallet.
Crossey added, “Workations allow individuals with flexible home and work lives to experience being ‘half tourists’ for a certain period of time.”
