Google is reportedly working on creating a YouTube app for Apple Vision Pro. The Verge reported that a YouTube spokesperson confirmed the company’s intention to develop the Vision Pro app, which will expand YouTube for Safari as an interim solution. This move comes after developer Christian Selig launched an unofficial YouTube app for Apple’s $3,500 headset. “We’re excited to see Vision Pro launched and we’re committed to ensuring YouTube users have the best experience in Safari,” said YouTube spokeswoman Jessica Gibby in an email to The Verge’s Nilay Patel. “We don’t have specific plans to share at this time, but we can confirm that Vision Pro software is on our way.” Additionally, a YouTube company spokesperson told Engadget that it no longer had plans to make its iPad app available on the visionOS App Store. Developing for the iPad is a relatively fast and easy way for developers to get their software onto Apple’s “spatial computing” device.Juno, the creator of Christian Selig’s unofficial YouTube app for Vision Pro (Christian Selig / Juno) Recently, something changed the company’s mind. One theory is that despite its high price, Apple’s hybrid headset seems to be gaining traction, especially among its most loyal and dedicated fans. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple sold between 160,000 and 180,000 headsets during its opening weekend. Christian Selig, the creator of the defunct Reddit app Apollo, launched a third-party YouTube app called Juno that was available at the Apple Vision Pro launch. Selig has garnered trust and a significant user base among Apple device users, being a former Apple developer and the creator of one of the most popular apps for iOS Reddit users. “This leaves you with Safari, and the website is fine, but it doesn’t feel like a visionOS app,” Selig explained in a recent blog post. YouTube supports 3D and 360-degree videos, but it currently does not work on Vision Pro. It is still uncertain if the company plans to incorporate this feature into its app.
