Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.), a Republican lawmaker, has nominated former President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, highlighting the role he played in brokering the Abraham Accords.
Tenney’s nomination came shortly after a suicide drone attack in Jordan resulted in the deaths of three Army soldiers. In her nomination statement, Tenney emphasized Trump’s contribution to the Abraham Accords, which formalized the relations between Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“In facilitating the first new peace agreements in the Middle East in almost 30 years, Donald Trump played an instrumental role,” stated Tenney on Tuesday. “For decades, conventional wisdom from bureaucrats, foreign policy ‘professionals’, and international organizations asserted that additional Middle East peace agreements were impossible without a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. President Trump demonstrated that this was not the case.”
Trump, who is currently the front-runner for the GOP, has been nominated for the prize on multiple occasions. In 2022, a Norwegian official nominated him for his role in brokering UAE-Israel relations, and he also received a nomination from four Australian law professors.
“The remarkable efforts of President Trump in establishing the Abraham Accords were unprecedented and have been underappreciated by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, highlighting the importance of submitting his nomination today,” stated Tenney.
Tenney also criticized President Biden for what she perceives as his “weak” leadership, which she believes poses a threat to the country’s safety and security.
“At a time when Joe Biden’s weak international leadership is jeopardizing our nation’s safety and security, it is vital to acknowledge Trump for his strong leadership and his endeavors to achieve global peace,” Tenney remarked. “I am proud to nominate former President Donald Trump today and look forward to him receiving the recognition he deserves.”
The prize can be nominated by professors, members of national governments, and assemblies, and the recipient will be announced in October this year.
