Where the Republican Candidates Stand on Impeaching Biden

Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California has instructed House Republicans to initiate an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Most of the Republican presidential candidates have supported this move.

The inquiry is motivated by the Republican party’s search for evidence of financial misconduct or corruption. Despite extensive investigations by the House Oversight Committee, no evidence has connected the president to his son, Hunter Biden’s, overseas business deals, which are currently being investigated separately by a special counsel.

Headshot of Donald J. Trump

He has called for impeachment.

Former President Donald J. Trump has taken the strongest stance among the Republican candidates, advocating not only for an investigation into whether Mr. Biden has committed impeachable offenses, but for outright impeachment.

Headshot of Ron DeSantis

He supports an impeachment inquiry.

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida expressed support for initiating an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, stating that they should pursue it as discussed by Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Headshot of Tim Scott

He supports an impeachment inquiry.

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina endorsed initiating an impeachment inquiry in August. He expressed that there is enough evidence to warrant an official probe, as the connections between the Biden family and potential wrongdoing lead back to President Biden himself. He emphasized the need to gather all the facts and information for the sake of justice and the American people.

Headshot of Vivek Ramaswamy

He supports an impeachment inquiry.

Vivek Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur and vocal defender of Mr. Trump, expressed support for initiating an impeachment inquiry against President Biden.

Headshot of Nikki Haley

She supports an impeachment inquiry.

Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and former United Nations ambassador, endorsed initiating an impeachment inquiry in June.

Headshot of Mike Pence

He supports an impeachment inquiry.

Former Vice President Mike Pence stated in early September that he supports an impeachment inquiry.

Headshot of Chris Christie

He supports investigations into Biden, but did not specify an impeachment inquiry.

Former Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey stated that there is not enough evidence to warrant impeachment of President Biden. He believes that initiating an impeachment inquiry in this manner cheapens the impeachment process.

Headshot of Asa Hutchinson

He supports investigations into Biden, but did not specify an impeachment inquiry.

Former Governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas stated in September that he supports investigations into whether President Biden benefited from his son’s business dealings. However, he does not believe the known facts warrant articles of impeachment.

Headshot of Doug Burgum

He avoided explicitly endorsing an investigation.

Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota stated on X, previously known as Twitter, that it is important to thoroughly investigate the Biden family’s business dealings. However, he did not explicitly endorse an impeachment inquiry.

Headshot of Will Hurd

Will Hurd

Former United States Representative

He supports an investigation, but urged caution.

Former Representative Will Hurd of Texas stated in response to Kevin McCarthy ordering an impeachment inquiry: “Joe Biden’s influence peddling as vice president to benefit his son should be investigated. If President Biden is found to have violated the law, he should be impeached.”
