Researcher Verifies Claim that All Blue-Eyed People Are Descendants of One Ancestor

January 29, 2024

A knowledgeable source has validated the theory that every person with blue eyes is a descendant of a single individual. Brown eyes are prevalent, with 70-80 percent of the world’s population having them, while only 8-10 percent have blue eyes and two percent have green eyes. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), it was only around 10,000 years ago when all humans had brown eyes. Despite this, blue-eyed individuals can still be born even if their parents do not possess the trait. This peculiar occurrence has an intriguing scientific explanation. All blue-eyed individuals are descendants of a single person thousands of years ago. This is attributed to the fact that they all trace their ancestry back to a person who lived around the Black Sea 6,000-10,000 years ago. This individual experienced a mutation in their gene on chromosome 15, resulting in the transformation of brown eyes into blue eyes. The presence of this single recessive gene is the cause of blue eyes. Dr. Allamby elaborated, stating that “We’re all descended from that one person if like me, you’ve got blue eyes,” and that individuals with blue eyes share more than 700 million relatives. It is quite extraordinary that a single genetic mutation from thousands of years ago has persisted and spread to millions of people carrying this recessive gene. All blue-eyed people have the same mutation in their chromosome that causes their eyes to be blue. One user expressed, “Hello brothers and sisters with blue eyes,” while another remarked, “Thank the lord I have green eyes and my man has blue.” Others humorously mentioned the need for presents from their newfound 700 million relatives. These vast familial connections prompt the suggestion to start preparing Christmas and birthday presents early. In an elaboration of the theory, Dr. Neville Sanjana, a human geneticist, emphasized that the occurrence is more complex than simply attributing blue eyes to a single mutation. He clarified that an event 6,000 to 10,000 years ago led to a mutation in the OCA2 gene, which is responsible for the production of melanin in the eyes. This mutation, which occurred in Europe, resulted in all modern blue-eyed individuals being distantly related to the founder from 10,000 years ago. Additionally, eight known genes contribute to eye color in humans. Furthermore, individuals with brown eyes due to the OCA2 gene can still end up with blue eyes as a result of the influence of the other seven genes.
