In response to the unprecedented flooding that occurred in eastern Libya, Russia has dispatched 35 emergency doctors and provided humanitarian aid to the affected region.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on Saturday that the third plane carrying specialists has arrived in Libya. The team of 35 employees will offer medical assistance to the population impacted by the floods.

Russia has already sent a mobile hospital equipped with operating theatres and an intensive care unit.

At the site, the 35 physicians will provide qualified medical assistance to up to 100 people each day, according to the ministry.

Recent flooding occurred in Derna, a city located in the northeast of Libya, when two dams burst as a result of Storm Daniel, which had hurricane-strength. This triggered a tsunami-like flooding in the area.

Concerns have been raised by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, stating that the casualties in Derna alone may reach 11,300, while 10,100 people remain missing.
