Russia announced on Monday that it had destroyed two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the western Belgorod region without any casualties.
The incident, which involved two drones, occurred at around 1:20 a.m. local time, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Using the Telegram messaging app, the ministry stated, “Air defense systems on duty destroyed two drones over the territory of Belgorod region.”
The Governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, confirmed that the drones were “shot down” over the Yakovlevsky district, located north of the regional capital, Belgorod. He added, “There were no casualties, but fragments of one of the drones fell on the roadway near a private residential building. All emergency services are at the scene.”
Since the start of Ukraine’s counteroffensive in early June, Russia has faced an increasing number of drone attacks. However, officials have downplayed the significance of these attacks.
