Sergei Shoigu, the Defense Minister of Russia, has arrived in Iran for meetings aimed at strengthening the defense ties between Moscow and Tehran, according to Russian news agencies.
Moscow has been actively seeking to forge stronger alliances with countries that have been marginalized by the West, including Iran. The Iranian government has provided Moscow with attack drones for its military operations in Ukraine.
A statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, carried by Russian news agencies, announced that the delegation from the ministry will engage in several talks with Iran’s military leadership during the visit. The ministry further emphasized that this visit is significant for bolstering military cooperation between Russia and Iran.
Sergei Shoigu’s trip takes place amidst a four-day visit to Moscow by China’s foreign minister and after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s train journey to Russia’s Far East, where he stayed for several days.
