In another concerning airplane occurrence, six people sustained injuries after an American Airlines commercial flight experienced a challenging landing on the Hawaiian island of Maui on Saturday afternoon. The Airbus A320 “encountered an issue upon landing” around 2 p.m. Hawaiian time at Kahului Airport, the airline stated. Five of the seven crew members and one of 167 passengers were treated at a hospital after the landing, and all were later discharged. “The aircraft was taken out of service for inspection by our maintenance team,” American Airlines stated, while reaffirming its dedication to safety. The cause of the issue leading to the rough landing remains unclear. The Federal Aviation Administration informed the Daily Beast that it is investigating the incident. The turbulent touchdown in Maui is the most recent in a series of flight-related incidents, most notably involving Boeing’s rival manufacturer, Airbus. Earlier this month, Boeing drew attention when a door panel tore off during a flight, followed by window cracks during another flight, sparks emanating from an engine failure during a separate incident, and a front wheel detaching from another jet moments before takeoff.
