A new research by Omio suggests that Driftwood Beach on Georgia’s Jekyll Island might be the most affordable beach to visit this summer. Omio, a Berlin-based travel booking platform, analyzed 35 beaches in the U.S. and Puerto Rico by considering not only the average temperature but also the prices of ice cream, soft drinks, and beer. Based on their findings, Driftwood Beach provides the best value for money with an average cost of $1 for ice cream, $2.48 for soda, and $5 for beer. The beach’s distinctive charm, characterized by its abundance of driftwood, is another reason why it stands out from traditional beach destinations.
The other beaches in the top 10, including Coligny Beach in Hilton Head, South Carolina; Playa de Isla Verde in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Siesta Beach in Siesta Key, Florida, also offer cheaper cold beer options.
Additional affordable beach destinations on the list include Balneario Seven Seas in Fajardo, Puerto Rico; Caladesi Island State Park in Clearwater, Florida; and Kiawah Beachwalker Park in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
The top 10 best and most affordable domestic beach destinations this summer also include Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, Florida; St. George Island State Park in Florida; and Cape May Beach in Cape May, New Jersey. Ocean City, Maryland and Wrightsville Beach outside of Wilmington, North Carolina are also highly recommended. The highest-ranked West Coast beach is Oregon’s Cannon Beach, which is ranked at number 13.
