Underneath this peculiar camouflage, we believe lies a high-performance hybrid SUV. Jan 25, 2024 at 1:30pm ET Car manufacturers often use various technologies and sometimes offbeat methods to conceal new cars during production. Some opt for numerous fake body panels, while others prefer simple yet elegant covers. However, Lamborghini is experimenting with something entirely unique. The peculiar aesthetic you see in the video below is not reminiscent of a character from the movie Dumb and Dumber, but rather a new electric version of the company’s esteemed Urus model. In 2023, the Italian automaker sold 6,087 units of the Urus, making it the most successful model in its history. The company has plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the super-SUV in 2024, and it is currently finalizing the development of the model. The unconventional camouflage makes the plug-in Urus appear like a cartoonish family utility vehicle, but its real-world appearance is likely to be as striking as the formidable power beneath the hood. Although the specifics of the powertrain for the Urus PHEV have not been officially confirmed, it is expected to be equipped with the Volkswagen Group’s 4.0-liter V8 engine. In the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, this engine, when combined with an electric motor, produces 729 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. It is speculated that Lamborghini’s version will likely be even more potent, given the brand’s reputation. Lamborghini is currently in the process of producing the final internal combustion engine models, as all available units have been pre-sold. Customers interested in ordering a plug-in Urus won’t have to wait long, as the debut is anticipated later this year. By the mid-2020s, Lamborghini intends for all its models to be electrified.
