Portsmouth, EnglandD-day veterans depart aboard a boat as they commute from Portsmouth to Caen to participate within the eightieth anniversary commemorations of the Allied amphibious touchdown in France in 1944. The king paid tribute to D-day veterans at a commemorative match in Portsmouth announcing that their ‘tales of braveness, resilience and team spirit’ transfer, encourage and ‘remind us of what we owe to that groovy wartime technology – now, tragically, dwindling to so few’.
