Shane Kimbrough, a NASA astronaut currently stationed on the International Space Station, cast his vote in the 2016 presidential election, according to a NASA Tumblr post.
According to Yahoo News, NASA confirmed that Kimbrough voted from the space station a few days ago.
Astronauts who will be in space on Election Day begin the voting process a year in advance. They have the option to choose which elections they want to participate in.
Six months before the election, pollsters provide astronauts with a “Voter Registration and Voting Application – Federal Post Card Application.”
According to NPR, NASA astronaut David Wolf was the first American to vote in space during a local election in 1997 while aboard the Russian Mir Space Station.
