The future of Toys for Bob is uncertain after the closure of its studio in Novato, California, as part of the recent issues at Xbox Activision Blizzard, resulting in approximately 1900 layoffs. The San Francisco Chronicle has reported that 86 employees have been laid off at the studio known for its work on popular games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Skylanders. Additionally, Call of Duty Sledgehammer also had to let go of 76 employees due to the impact of these developments. The closure was revealed through government documents. Xbox’s restructuring efforts following its $69 billion acquisition led to the departure of former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra and the cancellation of Blizzard’s in-development survival game. The uncertain future of Toys for Bob raises questions about the long-term impact of these changes. With many gaming industry publishers reducing staff and shutting down locations to focus on remote operations, the broader effects are yet to be seen.
