The U.S. State Department has released a security advisory urging individuals to reconsider traveling to Jamaica after 65 homicides occurred in a single month. The warning is due to high levels of crime and deficiencies in medical services. The prevalence of violent crimes, such as home invasions, armed robberies, sexual assaults, and murders, has been highlighted in the embassy’s caution, with specific mention of incidents occurring even within all-inclusive resorts. Additionally, local law enforcement is noted for their inadequate response to serious criminal activities, with rare prosecution of cases. This surge in murders has resulted in Jamaica having one of the highest homicide rates in the Western Hemisphere. The Jamaica Constabulary Force revealed that at least 65 individuals were killed within a 27-day period in 2024. It is important to note that U.S. officials have also advised caution to tourists traveling to The Bahamas due to crime.
