Former President Donald J. Trump announced on social media that two of his lawyers, James Trusty and John Rowley, have left his legal team. This comes after he was indicted on seven federal counts, and a day after the legal team had been briefed on the indictment. Trump further stated that he will now be represented by Todd Blanche, Esq., and a yet-to-be-named firm, as the case moves to the Florida Courts.
The departures of Trusty and Rowley came a month after Timothy Parlatore, another lawyer on Trump’s team, resigned. Parlatore went on CNN to complain about the conflict created by Boris Epshteyn, another lawyer close to Trump. Trusty and Rowley were two of the three lawyers who attended a meeting with Justice Department officials, including special counsel Jack Smith, three days before the indictment.
Two sources familiar with the matter stated that Trusty and Rowley had repeatedly complained about working with Epshteyn, which was part of the reason for their departures. Nonetheless, Trusty and Rowley are on good terms with Trump, as they noted in their statement after tendering their resignations.
Blanche, who is already representing Trump in the case against him in a Manhattan state court, represents both Trump and Epshteyn. The former president said that he will be announcing additional lawyers in the coming days.
