Despite multiple delays, Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot remains incredibly confident in Skull and Bones, going so far as to label it as “AAAA” quality. The last time we saw a developer make such a daring claim was Striking Distance Studios with The Callisto Protocol, a game that ultimately met an unfortunate fate. Guillemot made the statement during a Q&A session (thanks to VGC) where he discussed the company’s Q3 sales for the fiscal year 2024. He was questioned about the pricing strategy for Skull and Bones, with some suggesting a free version may be more suitable. Guillemot defended the $70 price tag, emphasizing the game’s scope, overall quality, and level of polish as justification for the price, an assertion that caught many by surprise. He proudly declared, “You will see that Skull and Bones is a complete game. It is vast, and we believe that people will realize how expansive it is. It is a very comprehensive experience, more than triple…quadruple. The game will speak for itself over time.” While its performance in uncharted waters remains uncertain, an open beta is currently underway this weekend, ahead of the game’s release on February 16 for the PS5.
