After six years since its revelation, Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones game will finally be open to everyone through the newly announced open beta. The open beta will start next month, just before the game’s launch. The game was first revealed at E3 in 2017, with a shiny trailer that hinted at a boat game similar to Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, but it turned out to be a large online pirate game. Despite facing ten years of development and six delays, the new open beta is set to arrive in February.
In a blog post on January 25, Ubisoft announced that after the closed beta in December, the large open beta of Skull and Bones will take place from February 8-11. Players on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 can participate, with the option to pre-enter the open beta starting on February 6. The publisher has also confirmed that crossplay and cross-progression will be supported during the trial.

Ubisoft may be confident that after years of development and delays, the game is ready for a wider audience, or perhaps they need to release the game soon for financial reasons. Additionally, Ubisoft has confirmed on Twitter that all progress made in the Skull and Bones beta will carry over into the game when it officially launches on February 16. However, players should be aware that like many other publishers, Ubisoft may offer early access through extra payments after a few days.
