During an interview with the “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby stated that the recent actions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were only the beginning, emphasizing that there would be further responses from the administration. Kirby also mentioned that President Biden has authorized more direct attacks on the IRGC and hinted at upcoming actions in response to recent attacks on US forces. Sullivan, appearing on several Sunday morning talk shows, emphasized the administration’s intent to continue responding forcefully to attacks on US forces or casualties.
Kirby defended President Biden’s decision to take military action without seeking congressional approval, stating that the actions were in line with the president’s responsibilities as commander in chief and were deemed necessary for self-defense. Sullivan also reiterated the effectiveness of the recent strikes in reducing the capabilities of the targeted groups and emphasized the need for the US military to remain prepared for potential retaliatory attacks.
After the strikes, which resulted in casualties, Sullivan assured that the government is evaluating the damage and reiterated that the targets were military sites such as ammunition depots and command and control centers, believed to be legitimate military targets.
