Washington: United States Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the importance of drivers’ attention at all times, following the circulation of videos showing Tesla drivers operating their vehicles while wearing what appears to be Apple’s newly released Vision Pro headset. Responding to a widely viewed video, Buttigieg reiterated the crucial need for drivers to be fully engaged, with more than 24 million people having watched the footage. “REMEMBER—ALL driver assistance technologies available today require a human driver to be in control and involved in the driving process at all times,” Buttigieg underscored. The Vision Pro by Apple, combining three-dimensional digital objects with external vision, was recently launched. However, Apple, which has advised against using the device while driving, has not yet provided a comment on the matter. Meanwhile, Tesla, whose advanced technology is intended for use by an alert driver with hands on the wheel, has not yet issued a response. This is not the first time Buttigieg has highlighted the importance of driver engagement while using Tesla Autopilot. Tesla emphasizes that its advanced system is intended for use by a vigilant driver who is prepared to take over control at any given moment.
